One of the most rewarding aspects of our work at Tanjin Carbon is seeing the tangible impact our products have on our customers’ operations. Today, we share a success story from a gold mining operation in West Africa that achieved significant improvements in recovery rates after switching to our activated carbon.
The Challenge
The mining company was experiencing inconsistent gold recovery in their carbon-in-pulp circuit, with adsorption rates falling below target levels. Their existing activated carbon supplier was delivering product with variable quality, including fluctuating hardness numbers and inconsistent particle size distribution. This led to excessive carbon losses through attrition and reduced gold loading capacity, directly impacting the mine’s profitability.
The Tanjin Carbon Solution
After a thorough assessment of the operation, our technical team recommended our TC-GR series granular activated carbon, specifically designed for gold recovery applications. This product features a hardness number above 97%, a gold adsorption rate (k-value) exceeding 28, and a tightly controlled particle size range that minimizes losses in the screening process.
Results Achieved
Within three months of switching to Tanjin Carbon products, the mine reported a 12% improvement in overall gold recovery and a 40% reduction in carbon consumption due to lower attrition losses. The consistent quality of our product also reduced unplanned maintenance on screening equipment. The customer has since signed a multi-year supply agreement and expanded the use of our carbon to a second processing facility.
